Yes some guides have an ego, I can tell you that first hand, but that has nothing to do with the argument here.

Because saltwaterguides are required to have a Captains license. Called a USCG Operators License.

You don't pay a guide for a supply of fish. You are paying a guide for the use of his boat, equipment, fuel, an enjoyable experience on the water, and for him to show you where the fish are. It is still up to you to catch the fish. Whether you go out on your own boat, a guide's boat, or a friend's boat it is still up to you to catch the fish.
