At ledbetter there was a marina you could launch at for 10 dollars about 10 years ago. Parallel and east of the south bridge right there, there is a bridge submerged under the water. We didn't have a depth finder but we knew where it was. We used to catch crappie that were hiding up under there. Sometimes when scooting the jig cross the top we would hang sandbass and throw em back. I bet you could wear em out with a jigging spoon and small treble hook.

Outside of that cove there is an underwater point that sticks out a ways with a pretty steep drop. They used to school up on top of that thing.

We never went far from ramp of the day because we had a pull start mercury and all that. But that's what I remember!

Appreciate the info! It's been 25 + years since I fished the lake. I know the sunken bridge you mentioned. If memory is correct my buddy that took me and got me hooked on Stripers and hybrid caught his PB striper trolling a rooster tail jig on a hell bender.
How I can remember that and not what I had for breakfast is beyond me.

Thank you.

Welcome, and I'm glad you remembered the important stuff. I knew palestine had hybrids back in the day, haven't looked at the stock history. And yea hellbender. Why can I remember that my dad always talked about that lure. And I remember the only time I used it - it looked stupid to me (a stupid 16 yr old) - i lost it in a tree that i could have climbed . Wow I wish I had that lure.

I used this app to refresh some of my memory (free detailed contour):

I did well at Palestine in 2021 catching hybrids and really big white bass along the old Hwy155 roadbed parallel with the existing bridge. However, I went last year and could not find many fish. Haven't gone yet this year, yet.

Please do tell how it goes

I hope I didn't give bad advice - i promise I wouldn't do that on purpose, unless it's a lake I fish!

Went there yesterday with friend Graham, and we could not find fish. Caught one white bass, a perch, and a catfish.

Oh shoot, hopefully you didn't go where I said! But it sounds like you got the important stuff right

We looked from one end of the lake to the other. The usual good spot - Old Hwy 255 roadbed and submerged bridges - had few fish this time.

Thanks for all the info. Loading poles and plan targeting anything that swims.
I'll with whites and hybrids and work through the other species.
Bring the bow incase they need to be force fead. Carp and Gar that is.
I'll post how the trip goes.
Cheers!

Good luck. The lake is really healthy. Striped population was better than I've seen in 20 years. But they don't seem to be relating to structure. No bird action south of 155, that I've seen. Got a hand full of hybrids in 7-9 fow in middle of day. That's only because I was frustrated and opened a beverage, drifted and looked at graph and bam. They were really finicky and catch 2 and they move.

That's pretty much, why you don't see much braggin on this lake. I've chased them for 30 years and graphed most of this lake and it still kicks my booty. Might try around flat creek island and henderson pt. Shallow flats and ridges.

If it's not too late as you may be on the water by now I would look around Horse Ranch Point on the south end. Creek channel swings in close and the sandies and hybrids will chase shad up on the big flat all day. This time of year I would make a rotation of the Hwy 155 roadbed (specifically where the sunken bridge is located), Horse Ranch Point, and then 2-3 main points in Saline Bay. That last big main lake point as you're going North into Saline (right side of lake as you make the turn to go to the bridge/marina at the back of Saline) can hold good fish this time of year.

Well 20 minutes into the road trip I got rear ended going 65-70 mph the Dallas Toll
road. Trashed my motor and destroyed his SUV. Only reason I caught him was is radiator was destroyed. Had insurance and now hoping for the best.
Limped the boat home and came down without it.
On the boat dock fishing. No complaints. No one was hurt.
Might be a weak report by the time we get back.
