I like the smaller retailers like True Value and Ace. Better customer service. Slightly higher price.

Man, I haven't seen a True Value since like 1990. Joshua had a very nice one, but it was only open a few years and then sat empty for years and last I saw it was a quilt shop.

Sad deal, though. I agree about patronizing the smaller stores, except grocery stores.

The last few times I’ve went to Home Depot they’ve had half of what I needed but not all of it. So inevitably I google what I need while standing in the aisle and realize they are charging twice what I can pay online to have it delivered to my house 48 hours later.

Here is the deal, plenty of people want to support their local hardware store. The problem is at HD they have 20 hammers for about 19.99 each and the hardware store has 2, that are 39.99 including the same hammer that's 19.99 at HD. As far as service the same zit face kid works at both and the grumpy old man that's mad about his retirement falling short is a fixture at the local hardware store too.... #facts

I keep supporting the local stores every chance I get and avoid the big box stores if possible. That said, sometimes you just have to go to HD or Lowes to get what you need.

Only reason to go to Lowe’s is if you can’t get it at Bralys ….and I’ve yet to have that problem.

I used to work pretty close to Elliott’s Hardware on Maple Ave. and would run down there at lunch to shop. They had a selection second to none. Don’t even know if they have survived.
