I've worn hearing aids for the last 10 years. Peaceful when I not wearing them, but need to wear them stay involved. It frustrates the wife when I'm not wearing them! grin

yep, got them at Cole Audio lab at SFA 6+ years ago; $3,000; worth every penny; she also told me about a microphone gizmo to put by the tv so u can hear EVERY word on the tv;

https://www.resound.com/en-us/hearing-aids/accessories/multi-mic

it drowns out everything else in the house and i can turn the volume down so it doesn't blow my wife's head off AND i can't hear her when she's talking to the tv; hit the pause button and say "huh?";

I have the Avantree ear buds just for TV in the BR. She goes to bed early usually while I'm watching TV thus I put in the earbuds and turn the TV external volume to zero.

Audibel is where we purchased ours. We had Humana supplement to Medicare and ours were no cost to us. They weren’t top of the line, but close and they do everything we need

I have hearing aids. Worn them 5 years now. Shop around for them. Audiologists will try to sell you the most expensive kind they have and most will NOT negotiate....paying cash makes no difference. I've been fortunate that my state health insurance covers 80% of the cost of a pair every 4 years. I'm getting a new pair of Phonaks this year before I retire. The pricing is ridiculous to say the least. They have a captive market and our dysfunctional Congress didn't include hearing aids coverage in the their last medicare funding blll...it got negotiated out...wonder who or what lobbyist helped kill that perk for senior citizens. Our senior citizens, that includes me, seem to come last when it comes to any kind of coverage for hearing aids.....and we need it the most.!!!

As the other poster said Tru Hearing has good prices but the trick is to find a decent audiologist who can program them to work for you and your hearing needs. Too many of them with just program them how the audio test you get indicates and don't really want to spend the time in many cases to tweak them to your specific needs. And they will NOT work on any hearing aids, in most cases, if you didn't buy from them....and if they do they charge you some stupid amount to do so. I got the interface and the software to change mine if I want to. It's amazing what you can find on the web...:) Audiologists don't like that...well that's tough.

Yes I don't much care for audiologists around here because of their attitudes and their business practices. Don't offer me $1,300 if I trade my old ones in...discount your price by that much since obviously you are still making a profit. And your trade-ins wind up as a tax write off for them if they donate them or if they wind up on the grey market.

Here's my experience... I've had hearing aids for about 25 years... Had them all... From Costco to a professional audiologist... The set I have now (about a year old) are $5k a piece, I go back every 3 months to have them cleaned and adjusted... All hearing aids do is amplify the loudest noise in the room... They don't necessarily make it clearer, just louder. So if you're in a restaurant you hear the kids screaming, the loud table across the room, the guy clearing the table and tossing dishes in the bin... If there's a band playing I just take them out... Way too loud... The bluetooth feature for the TV is great if you're watching by yourself... If you're watching with someone else you can't hear them at all, so they defeat the purpose... I was at a dinner party last weekend, 8 people, so there were 2 or 3 conversations going at a time... I only heard about a third of what was going on... I can't hear my grandkids at all, gotta have an interpreter to tell me what they're saying... With the wife if the TV is on or she's playing music she has to mute it before I can even hear she's saying something... She always saying we talked about this, she may have talked about it but if I didn't know she was talking I didn't hear it... Whatever you do temper your wife's enthusiasm, because in my case they do very little... Dan
