I’m shocked how much 5.56 gets moved by the wind, You won’t see it much at all at 100 yards, but starting at 200 yards a 10 MPH wind can push it 5 inches or a bit more. It’s a light bullet, but I somehow thought it would be more stable in the wind.

Try 68/69 gr OTM up to a 77 gr. OTM. Don't drift as much is my experience.

I was shooting the Ruger American today. 16 inch barrel. I was able to stack a few shots and then the wind would kick up and the difference was very noticeable

Doesn't twist come into play with heavier bullets?

Old age and getting fatigued had nothing to do with it of course.

It's a light round for sure. Its just not a long range platform.

I will try that next. I will also hang some ribbon down range and learn how to deal with it. I don’t do a lot of long range shooting, 200 yards isn’t that far but it’s the farthest my range has to offer.

You forgot poor eyesight as well. I need a better scope on this set up.

1:8 on the Ruger is fine. But yes, 1:8 or 1:7 for heavier bullets. I have an older Bushmaster AR (1:9) that doesn't do well with the heavier stuff.
