I don't see any posting on Lake Whitney for many weeks. I haven't been there for months but went last Tuesday Oct 8. Water was flat, no wind. But stained , not clear but not muddy either. Tons of bate near dam. Found some fish stacked on finder but not bites. Went up toward McGown and found the same. Went all the way up and not bites but one. I was mid morning and afternoon. NOTE... McGown is closed Oct 1 thru Dec 31. Any observations from other Fall fisherman?

In my own opinion, Lake Whitney,as a flood control lake goes through cycles of high and low water. It all boils down to fish per acre, or fish per cubic foot, however you choose to see it. In times of high water, the lowlands arw flooded giving the bait and young sportfish plenty of room and safety to multiply. As the water recedes to lower levels, the bait fish are driven to the main lake where predator fish, facing more competition among themselves begin to seriously throw down on the bait schools. These past 10 months, as the water level has been close to, or above normal, have been great for the overall fish population, however, it may be a while, as this year's fingerings grow up,for fisherman to reap the benifits. I noticed ,looking at the recent stocking reports that Smallmouth fingerings have been reintroduced. I'm really looking forward to see how that turns out.

I took my wife and kids out this last Sunday the 13th. We ended up catching 4 striper in about 3 hrs. Fish were in 30 FOW where the river makes the bend near McCown flats. All fish caught on 1 oz slabs. We would have caught a few more but we lost a few with trying to help my young sons learn how to fight a fish. Hard to stay on the schools of fish. They were moving through quickly.
Thanks and Gig’Em!
