Suppose Congress only authorized war against Japan and not Germany. I know I know they declared war against us shortly after the bombings but imagine we took a defensive posture against them until we defeated Japan. I wonder where Russia would have stopped. Where would they be at today?

I think Japan was really worried about China.

I think Japan was really worried about China. They had their population center under almost complete control. If they hadn’t have poked the bear Japan might be much larger

I think Japan would have taken China and Russia. Japan was hungry for oil and would have soundly defeated a Russia terribly weakened by Germany.

Japan started its Imperialistic ways years before Germany did. They had a rogue General that invaded China without the Emperors authorization either in the late 20's or early 30's.

Without Lend / Lease, Stalin most likely would have been defeated. The US and the Allies provided enough equipment & supplies to allow Stalin to hang on until the US entered the war. We are living with those results today. Just my

Yes, the US military was a hollow force during Germany and Japan's run up to war. The American public wanted an isolationist policy, no more involvement in Europe's wars after WWI. Roosevelt helped turn the economy around with the initial build of the industrial base to provide Lend Lease equipment and supplies initially for the UK, along with the initial build up of the US military. Russia was included in Lend Lease after Hitler invaded Russia, forcing Germany into a 2 front war.

Japan went against China twice. The first time in 1931 and the second time in 1937. We helped supply the Chinese by air, flying cargo to the them over the Himalayas, from Burma, during the actual WWII.. The Second Sino-Japanese War was fought between the Republic of China and the Empire of Japan between 1937 and 1945, following a period of war localized to Manchuria that started in 1931.[24][25] It is considered part of World War II, and often regarded as the beginning of World War II in Asia. It was the largest Asian war in the 20th century[26] and has been described as "the Asian Holocaust", in reference to the scale of Japanese war crimes against Chinese civilians.[27][28][29] It is known in China as the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression
