I recently set up an external transfer for my mother so we could send money from one named credit union to a different named credit union. It took 5 days for the money to transfer. Why in the world in this day of super-duper computers would it take that long? Are there any humans involved in this transaction? confused 3

Were there any issues in the information used for this transfer? That can cause a delay. Also, I have seen transfers into or out of credit unions take a little more time than I normally see with a bank.

I did something similar at my credit union. Since the check came from one account at a different bank going into an account at the credit union, they held the funds for 5 days to make sure it cleared.

It can take 3 to 5 business days in my experience and this is from several different institutions. Sometimes if during the week 2 days at best.

I still want to know why it takes 10 days to unsubscribe from unwanted spam emails but .002 seconds to subscribe to them.

The transfers you used are ACH, automated clearing house. They batch them and aren’t fast or expensive. The bank waits to make sure sufficient funds are there. If you want immediate you want a wire transfer. But then you have to pay for the transfer.

This. ACH usually takes 1-2 business days to appear in the receiving entity's account, depending on the two financial institutions involved in the transfer. Five days sounds excessive.

If you do the volume of transactions they do, using the other guys money for a few days free adds up.
