Due to circumstances beyond my control (flooding, followed by boat motor issues) I haven't done much, well any, Carp flats fishing this year. I finally got my engine issues corrected and, with the weather being what it is, I figured it's not too late to a trip or two in. Any time I can run my boat barefoot in October is worth a trip regardless. So I hit it this morning. I always enjoy poling around in my boat, looking at birds, butterflies, turtles, frogs and the myriad of wildlife and scenery on the flats. It's a good thing too. I didn't have much luck with catching fish. I saw enough fish but they were having non of it from me. I don't know if the flat calm water had anything to do with it but the Carp were very spooky. Good cast, bad cast, great cast, didn't matter. They just didn't seem interested if was on the money. If it wasn't on the money, forget it. You were left staring at a huge mud bloom. If you could find a Drum they did seem interested. I got a good cast at one. He turned and came up fight behind the fly. Just as he was about to eat he saw me. I was in direct line of the fly so he was starring right at me. Oh well. I was just about to call it a day - had to pick the Mrs. up at the airport - when I spot a nice Drum working right on the edge of a drop off into a creek. This time it worked like it was supposed to. I poled the boat close, but not too close, laid the fly two feet in front of him. I let it sink until he spotted it then, started a short, jerky strip. He jump right up with his nose on the fly. I gave one quick strip and saw the fly dissappear in his open mouth. And that was that.

Nice report. Glad to see you’re back fishing.

Some people go to church and think about fishing. Some go fishing and think about God.
