The short version is today is my birthday and my daughter surprised me with a trip to Globe Life Field for a Hurtado BBQ event.
Brandon Hurtado talked about how he got into the business. Pudge joined him after that to cook a shrimp w/grits recipe that they will offer next spring when they open their Dallas store.

Pudge was a hoot. He told stories and answered questions.
One was the backstory of the Robin Ventura pounding. Another was the time he took a nacho from a lady after chasing down a foul ball. He finished by telling us about the World Series with the Marlins.

Then Brandon said they needed a volunteer from the crowd. My daughter had told several people that it was my birthday and all of a sudden I was chosen. The task at hand was trimming pork ribs.
Brandon Hurtado gave us knives then demonstrated how to trim the ribs before putting them in the smoker.
Then it was me and the Hall of Famer, squared off against each other. He finished first and probably did a better job of trimming his ribs. They asked for applause for each of us to determine the winner. I was declared the winner but to be honest it was just because it was my birthday.


The breakfast burritos they gave us when we got there were very, very good. They only sell them out of their Ft Worth location but if you have a chance you might try one. Then afterwards they fed us lunch.

It was my best birthday.

I don't think I could have ever dreamed up what your daughter pulled off. She is a special one for sure.
That is about the coolest thing I've heard of.

I never was at the level of fandom that a lot of people had for pudge but damn, you just lived a lot of people’s dream!
