Fell 30 feet from his tree stand. Luckily survived without serious injury. Wear a harness up there everyone.

I was setting up a new ladder stand 15 years ago this past labor day when the stand started twisting while I was attempting to put the top strap around the tree. I jumped from approximately 12 feet up rather than land on my back. Luckily SIL was able to locate me about two hours after my fall. Shattered my left tibia at the knee. I feel it almost every day.

Dang. Sorry to hear that but glad you are here to tell the story. Heard another story about a guy that fell from his tree stand ladder and landed on a fence T post. Dont think people realize how dangerous tree stand hunting is.

So he’s anti FFS, anti-safety harness and pro killing deer from 30’ in the air. If that doesn’t give him an unfair advantage, I don’t know what does.

I figured that he hunted deer with a homemade spear and stalked them on foot.

I reckon, Indians, Daniel Boone, and a few other frontiersmen, climbed a tree or two, without a safety harness. I bet they would have used FFS, if available at the time to put food on the table, in order to feed their families . FFS just doesn’t , make sense when being used for competitive , ethical, sport fishing.

The Indians were the only true hunters, those white crackers all used black powdered rifles to kill game. Unethical to use a high powered weapon to hunt.

Oh and it hurts sales numbers on stick & string weapons, it all needs banned. See how stupid any argument can be made to sound. wink

Wow, If I rolled out of bed and fell on the floor I would be sore. He definitely got lucky. Good old Hank was being watched over that day by the good Lord above.

I climbed a sweet gum tree several years ago with a homemade climbing stand and was able to get about 15 feet up. I went to seat the base with my feet and since the two pieces of the stand weren't tied together it slipped off my feet and fell all the way to the bottom. I had to bear hug that tree and work my way down and naturally it had some poison ivy on it. it took me about 6 months to get healed up from that. I had that poison ivy sap ground into my fore arms.

Glad OLe Hank is okay and will live to hunt & fish another day. A friend of mine's 39 yr old son died from a fall from his stand 2 weeks ago in GA. Sad thing, he had a wife and young son. WEAR A HARNESS!!
