Those are Chiltepin. The original seeds/pods were picked off a native plant on the Colorado River outside of Austin. Texas has designated the chiltepin as the official state native pepper.

Truth or Lore? In south texas Jim Wells and Duval counties, it was claimed that a wild turkey that had been eating those would flavor the meat with the taste of those little peppers. Any one else ever here of a tail like that? The ones I ate from down their just tasted like plain old wild turkeys.

I still have a bunch of seeds you sent me. These are the first to grow.
Should the plant be trimmed or leave it ?
I havenโt had one survive outside over winter yet. If you bring it in for the winter you can cut it way back late February or early March and it will do great next year. I found a Chile de Monte at a Mexican grocery store this year. Iโm going to repot it and bring it in during winter. Iโll take it out during warm stretches
