Who uses these while walking, riding exercising etc..? I am looking at getting one just to wear while riding bike or walking/hiking. The prices are all over the map from 20 to + 200 $. I have found the military style to be of interest but there are so many other choices. Any recommendations out there would be appreciated.

1. Unless you have a heart condition, you don’t need this sort of thing 2. They are all pretty good these days, and if you just want heart rate and steps, get something cheap around $20-30 3. This is where eBay and Craigslist come into play (see point #1) People buy things like this and realize they don’t need them and never use them..so they end up on the secondary market for cheap. With all that said, I’d offer this bloke $50 for his hardly ever used Amazfit Trex Pro ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/09/full-30144-243067-img_8424.jpeg)

I used to use one. But now I have to go to classified labs and they don't allow smart watches or cell phones.
I didn't need it but at sub-$100 on used ones they were fun to have. I wasn't worried about busting them up like my Citizen watches that were much more expensive and the screen was nice. I'll have to check out the amazfit option

Here’s some more info on the Amazfit Trex pro. Turning off phone and email notifications along with turning off always on display significantly prolongs battery life. https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/amazfit-t-rex-pro-battery-life.5401439/Yes, I have one along with a Garmin Instinct Solar 2 and a $30 AliExpress HAYLOU Solar RT3 I use the Amazfit Trex pro the most as it has the right combination of simplicity/ruggedness/utility.

Back when I actually exercised, I used one of those chest mounted things. Looking back, how retarded was that? Just go out and have some fun and get that heart rate up, muscles moving. BUT...they can also be used to track your jilted lover and murder them. "Sasser was allegedly able to track the couple's whereabouts by using an app called Strava, which connects to Garmin watches to share fitness data." Botched murder story of Karen.

I am on my second Garmin smart watch. Prior to that, I had two FitBits. I prefer Garmin but FitBit isn’t a bad choice. There are probably 100 different manufacturers.
Contrary to what CCTX said, I’ve found having more health metrics to be helpful. I don’t have a heart condition, but monitoring all of the metrics daily would help alert me if that changes in the future. Is a watch going to be as accurate as dedicated tests in a doctor’s office? No, but with consistent use, I’ll know what the baselines are and if trends change.
The apps you use to synch your data to lays out everything and is much easier to read than on the watch itself. My watch monitors all kinds of things, including sleep (duration and stages), recovery, heart rate variability, blood oxygen level, VO2 Max, calories burned, heart rate variability, recovery, body battery and more. Do I trust my watch to be able to accurately measure all of this? Absolutely not, but I will know with consistency if something is changing, either rapidly or over time.
It was very useful over the last four years when I put more emphasis on my health and losing weight. I still have some weight to lose, but it was encouraging and helpful to see the changes to things I listed above during that process. It allowed me to understand what activities helped or how they changed my metrics, do some research and try to improve certain things, or alert me to changes that might not have been beneficial.
If you use my fitness pal or another calorie tracking/diet app, it will synch with your watch and adjust calories based on how much you’ve burned. Accuracy wise, I don’t trust it to be 100% correct, but over time, the watch gets better at gauging how many calories you’re burning and you also learn to adjust based on what the watch and diet app is saying vs what the scale is saying.
It helps if you wear it all the time for accuracy. But if all you want is a step counter, or a way to track your bike rides, you can probably get a cheaper version and only wear it when you’re exercising.

This is a good point. Some metrics are continuously working behind the scenes and take up a lot of battery. Email and Tex notifications also kill battery. I don’t leave Bluetooth on all day, and if I am using Bluetooth, I make sure the watch app on my phone is closed out so it doesn’t continuously synch. I have a Garmin that lasts about 20 days between charges this way (it’s also solar charging, so that helps slow battery usage when I’m outside a lot)

I had a cheapo Fitbit, because of heart condition, that I enjoyed. Downloaded all the info everyday and tracked everything it would register. But I got tired of messing with it and the stupid thing broke

Your apple phone will track your steps. its under the fitness app. I use that already..I was just thinking that for cardio fitness it was beneficial to have an elevated heart rate for a certain amount of time for there to have any benefit and I have no way to track that. I have no heart issues just looking to keep things on a healthy level
