Do any of the Port Aransas party boats do state water snapper trips in October? The boys want to head to Port A during the fall break and hit some offshore and the wife wants snapper.

Check with Dolphin Docks. They should have near shore trips.

Dolphin Docks used to do 8-hour state-water trips on the Capt. Paul, but I've only seen 4-hour trips listed recently. A 4-hour trip is a waste of time, to me. They like to do two trips per day: Two sets of tips, and they don't use as much fuel. My fish buddy and I caught lots of nice snappers on the 8-hour trips. You might try calling to see if they might do them on weekdays. Don't know about the other boats. Have fun! IslandJim

All head boats are bottom fishing. Any snapper caught have to be released. Just got back myself. 25 ounce weight in 200 ft of water to catch a few perch sized fish was not very much fun. I asked Dolphin Docks yesterday and they are bottom fishing. We went out on the Wharf Cat. This was our result in a 10 hour trip. My son did get a 7ft Sharpnose shark. My arms are still exhausted helping him crank that in from the bottom. [Linked Image]

If you want to do anything other than bottom fish you need to go on a private boat.

Not so, you have to go on the right trips, on the right boats. I mostly fish Galveston/Freeport as it's closer to where I live (Rowlett) and the longer trips include tuna. Pt A also has longer trips available.

The Kingfisher at Deep Sea Headquarters and the Capt. Paul at Dolphin Docks both start doing their state water trips in October.

My wife and I have had some great state water snapper trips with Dolphindocks in October. Here is an example.
