I fish almost every day.
I’ve had the DD26 Live Foot for about three years (one of their first customers).
Other than feelings a bit like the development test dummy, I only have a few small complaints with this product.
It is as advertised.
Before purchasing, I did my best to research all the options that were available at the time. I think I chose well.

The reason I wanted a turret is because of where and the style fishing I like to do.
I use spot lock a lot. I fish specific structures and often, fairly static schools of fish. I am often in current, wind and boat wakes.
I know boat location (set up) relative to the target is critical. The turret allows me use spot lock and still use FFS to target fish.

So what’s my point?? . . All motorized turrets stink.
Here’s the problem with all motorized turrets: they are “digital”, either on or off, moving CW or CCW at a fixed speed depending on what switch you’re pressing. They do not move in an analog fashion like you move your trolling motor.
Now I’m no FFS expert but I can say that this is a real problem. It is impossible to “track” fish with today’s motorized turrets.
Please, . . Somebody! . . Make a turret with a rocker pedal and “trolling motor” like behavior.
(I refuse to give up spot lock for FFS). If you know of a turret with a rocker pedal, please let me know.

Just me venting.

Seems like you are making a good point. I believe you are saying you need responsive direct control like a TM.
I can see this if you gotta spot lock.

I have imagined the same issues you are describing. Hence the reason for me holding off on buying one. I also like the idea of the turret being completely separate from the trolling motors motion. To add to the cost, I’d like to be able to link the turret to the trolling motors direction at the touch of a button. Both worlds (options).

I’d like the turret to stow and deploy with the trolling motor, be cable operated via a second foot pedal, and link to the troller, allowing one foot operation of both, for “chasing” fish! Sounds expensive.

I have the Rite Hite turret and have no issues with it. In some cases I wish it would move faster, but I understand the issues that come with that.
Almost all trolling motors are now digital, so I don't see them getting away from that.

Why not make your own? I did out of an old TM. Turned out i didn't care for it. Didn't like trying to use both foot pedals when scanning for fish/structure. So I went to the ProDucer from shutup and fish.

The problem with repurposing an old troller is mounting it first off, then stowing and deploying two mounts every time you move the boat.

I use a pole and adjust with my left hand. But if you wanted something that was quick, you could make something pretty easy with an Arduino with a stepper motor and a rotary switch. But you would still need to adjust the knob somehow. These projects don't like water, so it's adding to the complexity.

Something like this

I built my own. First I just did the foot pedal and it ended up being some massive entertainment trying to use two foot pedals at once. With the remote control it makes it very nice. I also added a speed controller to adjust the speed of the motor which is very useful. Scanning you want fast and staying on a target you want to slow the motor down. Simple video but if you want more information just let me know.

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

I have the newest DD26 Live Foot and I love it. Only wish more had the target lock feature.

I just got my hand operated turret in and I'm going to install it as soon as I get by boat back from the shop. I thought about the electric ones but that just seemed like an unnecessary feature and something else to suck power. I'll have to update on how I like the hand control turret.

There is a new turret that will be on the market soon that is motor shaft attached for Force and Ghost motors. Sort of expensive though. https://revolutionsonar.com/
