Regardless of your political views, using exploits to harm humans is utterly irresponsible and dangerous. Today’s events, where nearly 3,000 people were harmed by exploits causing lithium batteries to explode, highlight a disturbing reality and set a dangerous precedent that threatens everyone’s safety.
In cybersecurity, our mission is to protect critical infrastructure from a relentless barrage of exploits. We focus on defending utilities, transportation systems, and other essential components of society. These threats are constant and evolving. Misusing technology to directly harm individuals not only endangers lives but also risks disrupting democratic processes, such as elections.
Consider the implications if similar tactics were used to target voters, politicians, or critical services. An exploit like this could halt transportation systems or exert control over society at large. The potential consequences are chilling. Allowing such actions to go unchecked, without accountability, opens the door to even more severe abuses—possibly controlled by AI or authoritarian regimes.
Allowing it to go unchecked? Was this the thinking when they invented gunpowder?

Today’s events, where nearly 3,000 people were harmed by exploits causing lithium batteries to explode, highlight a disturbing reality and set a dangerous precedent that threatens everyone’s safety That has not been confirmed. These were new pagers, distributed within the past month, because their commanders were concerned about cell phone tracking. That leaves open the possibility that they contained some kind of small explosive charge - in short, they might have been rigged. Everyone knows most "hacking" starts with a good amount of social engineering. Besides that, what is the possibility that any hack on the batteries could reliably and consistently cause a violent explosion? Wouldn't many just fizz out or catch fire, especially since many would not be at 100% charge? Is a L-Ion battery at 25% charge going to explode like that? There don't seem to be any reports of anything but straight up detonations...at least not yet.

A few less Islamic terrorist in this world is ALWAYS a good thing. I don’t care how it happens. Pagers, bombs, divine intervention…who cares?

Newsmax is showing a great video of the one in the market. Funny how only a few folks ran away, most just hung around and stared. Love it!

When they send missiles into urban areas or do like last years October massacre I have little or any sympathy for the Hezbollah crowd. What Hezbollah did last year was irresponsible and dangerous. Spare me your tears. I still haven't gotten the pictures of the babies they killed out of my mind.

If a hacker can make a pager explode when he wants it to.
He could do that with any device connected to the internet that has a battery.

Not that easy. Reports are that these pagers were physically modified by the Mossad and sold in bulk to the terrorists, then set off electronically.
