Respectfully that’s horrible advice. You are going to take out pre-tax money and pay it back post tax. All the money you took out isn’t earning interest either. It’s a double whammy might as well go to a loan shark.

All that said some remodelers offer financing. I’d get 3 quotes and see if you can negotiate with the lowest one- may be your best option.

lol yeah there is no such thing as free money. Zero interest loans have a bunch of points built in from the lender. Trust me that cost is not absorbed by the construction company. It’s usually 6 to 10 points depending on program and loan amount. We had them when I worked at RJ.

So if a customer wanted to finance I always made sure I knew what kind of financing they wanted. If it was zero percent interest I knew I had to up the estimate accordingly or it was coming out of my pocket.

1) How long are you planning on staying put?
2)How much is the total project? Get you bids lined up.
3) How long do you want to take to pay it off?
4) When you do the bathroom (which is generally a good payback on investment) make sure you look forward to what's coming down the road. Don't want to do the remodel that's gonna be last years "in" thing. Think 5 years down the road for resell as long as you and the Mrs agree on it.
5) Is the fence project necessary right now or is that a want?

There's only a few options since rates are fairly high. 401 as mentioned is not a great one. If you've got a good relationship with you credit union or bank, see what the best rates they have for the different loans they offer, heloc, personal, etc.
Hard to make an informed decision without the basic info.

We'll die in this house. The fence is dire as is the tub.

I rebuilt our fence in 2005 and it's still going strong. I did it with pressure treated 2x4s and pickets...did it all myself. If I can fence the backyard on an acre lot, you should be able to do that one. I know your son is autistic, but he looks strong from the pics you posted when he graduated. Can he help you build it? The labor is a large part of that project. If you could do that on your own, that would be good. Home Depot and Lowes usually run 0% specials around Veterans Day (all the holidays really).
