The black crappie are on or near the bottom in 6 to 15ft. They're averaging around 11 inches this year so it's a good time to fill up the freezer. This is my favorite size to eat. The bigger white crappie I've found are in 13 to 15 feet, a couple of feet off the bottom. I been using white and chartreuse for the white crappie and black and grey for the black crappie. The size jig is 1/16oz. Minnows are better than the jigs on the white crappie but don't waste your time if you're chasing the black crappie. They're so plentiful, you're better off just staying on the move. This pattern is working everywhere on the lake so save some gas and check out the cove closest to you before zooming across the lake. If you only looking for the biggest of boys, good luck. I'm no good at that.
