I believe Marvs was what had been Bob Finchers bait and the darkness came from chicken blood that was aquired around Nixon. I bought 5 gallons from Bob when he was still alive. It didnt start out that dark but got darker over time. Someone on here knows more of the story but I heard the blood part was no longer allowed in later years. It was great catfish bait. I made 5 gallons that had the same consistency using cheese from Boat Cycle and calf brains and Bob told me to put it in a 55 gallon drum and put a light in above the bait and cover the drum for a week. Whew did it get ripe but also got soupy and then added cattails. Good bait at Amistad in those days! So many. years. ago!

I believe his recipe was published. I made some of it, only five gallons. Gotta say you had to pick wisely who you took fishing when using it. Caught fish though.

It did catch fish but it was tough with little kids slinging it all over the boat! On one bucket I got some shrimp and chopped them up and stirred them in. We called it “Shrimp Blend”.
