Cool video. I absolutely love to crappie fish from my kayak. Dock shooting? I’m at eye level, so there’s really a lot less opportunity to mess up the ‘shot’ or cast. When I’m just jig fishing with my 10’ rod, it’s like sitting in my easy chair catching fish. I’ve only really gotten into crappie fishing this year, so everything I’m doing is pretty much a test run.

Really enjoyed the video. Good job! Kayak fishing is great fun!

Cedar Creek kayak access points?
I have looked at TPWD page, but I was wondering if there were any other kayak access points close to docks. I have never been on the lake before and I thought I would try it.
Thanks

To the guys that kayak fish out in open water with boat traffic - do you get wet often from the wake/waves or just in general?

I have a friend with a hobie angler which is a bigger kayak and considering taking it out for a day this winter. Just worried I'll stay wet the whole time unless I fish far away from the channel and boat traffic.

The lakes I fish most of the time have boat traffic most of the time while I’m fishing. The jet fleas on one of those lakes can get pretty frustrating at times. My kayak is a Kackson Kraken 15.5 which is also the length. It rides the waves really well. At times, I do have to watch the waves to face them head-on.

Getting there early is key on most weekends to beat the boat / seadoo traffic.

A shorter kayak may not fare so well.

I have been out in the middle of lakes, too. Lake O The Pines has a lot of boat traffic. I’ve fished there on my kayaks a lot. I used to have a Hobie PA 14 that was very stable. I’ve never had any trouble with getting wet.

Cedar Creek is covered with docks. Almost any place you put in is close to docks. Access points off 198 at Caney Creek, or Log Cabin are close to plenty of docks. Ramp at Caney Creek is right by the bridge. Weekend boat traffic on CC can be a little tough to deal with although should have subsided some by this time of year. Plenty of ski boats that probably don't look for kayaks. Ramp on 334 at Tom Finley Park is right by a bridge also if you like fishing bridges.

Thank you! That's all great info - I will definitely wear some waders just in case but was wondering what to expect.
I'll probably take it out to Lake Darbonne which is on drawdown this year so hopefully there will be less boat traffic (and slower if they hope to keep their lower ends intact).

One of those tall bicycle flags in bright orange will help boaters see the kayak if they're looking.
