After a few years of avoiding them, I finally broke down and bought some circle hooks size 7/0. I mean, they just don’t look like they’d make good hookups. As usual, I was wrong. I caught a half dozen fish that morning but nothing over 6lbs. The wind was pushing me at 0.9-1.1MPH so they had to chase it. 😁 I’ve got to get a drift sock. Here are a couple of hook sets that pretty much sold me on these hooks.

Yes sir'ee circle hooks do work. Feed them well and they will set the hook themselves for you.

I went through circle hooks, had some success with them but don't like what a pain they are to unhook or bait unless you offset them. Plus the large sizes you need to use. On the Kahle bandwagon presently.

On the Kahle bandwagon presently. I googled Kahle hooks. I’ll give them a shot too. It took a couple of try’s of to figure out the right way but the circle hooks come out easy most of the time. I like that they get behind the tooth patch most of the time and that the fish usually hooks itself. I like the fact that I can use a 7/0 hook…mainly because they are very sturdy. I’m open to new hook designs but they’ll have to be exceptionally good to outshine the circle.

Kahle style hooks will also self set and are easier to bait. Plus if you feel like setting the hook you are less likely to pull the hook out of the fish's mouth. The biggest advantage to circle hooks is they are less likely to snag when drift fishing. The Kahles hook has the point of the hook lined up with the eye so you get a more direct hook penetration than J hooks .
