Hominy grits are good. I also like it in soups. Never tried it on its own, and don’t think I’d want to.
What exactly is hominy anyway? Does it grow like an ear of corn? Nixtamalization of corn.

I THINK that's what my paternal grandmother tried to feed us one time...if it is, it's freaking gross!
For a long time I got creamed corn and hominy confused when I was growing up. I'm thinking my grandmother gave us hominy grits and that's why. I don't know. Whatever concoction that woman fed us though was gross!

Mexicans trying to keep mice off the corn. Pour lime over it.
Smart move. It's pre digested to a degree. Where eating whole kernel corn. You can see it in your stool. Homily, easily digested, get more nutrition out of corn.
All because of mice. Funny how that works.

Excellent meal! But start with dried hominy and not the mushy canned stuff.

Menudo. Beef tripe. White hominy, Oregano. Paprika. Salt and pepper. The beef tripe has to be boiled for like 5hours. That's why Menudo is a specialized dish. Made by the gallon.
Served with lemon juice, diced white onion or the long green onions chopped up. They say it cures hangovers. I don't know why unless you pour some hot sauce in it.
Ever notice the gallon cans of hominy at the store? White hominy? Menudo.

I need to try it again. It’s been 45 years since I’ve had it. I despised it then, but there were a lot of things that I didn’t like then that I like now.

Grits yes, a little in soup is fine. By itself is a hard no.

Hominy's good. Hominy grits are great. Anybody tried fried grits? Fix up a mess of grits and put 'em in a bread pan in the refrigerator. After they've spent the night gelling, slice 'em up, brown 'em in butter, and serve hot with maple syrup. An excellent breakfast!
