I’m fishing the Bass Nation Nationals on Grand this fall. Top 3 make the classic.

There should be a place for everyone in my opinion.

There are enough anglers to have tourneys with and w/out FFS so hopefully we will finally see the bullying, and bickering deminish. I recall the bashing when SI/DI 1st arrived on boats but never saw it get to a point of concern. FFS is not going away.

This is great news IMO. Variety is good for a lot of reasons. Most of you admit you don't really watch it anyway so why care so much about it? Let them run their business and let the free market decide their fate. I see zero negatives to this. This gives all styles a place to compete and lose money.

I’ll watch NPFL next year, I stopped watching all of them because I can’t stand to watch someone else look at a screen, and evidently I like FFS because I have it on 2 different boats. I just don’t care to watch someone else using it and at this point I don’t think I’m going to learn any secrets by watching it. Also NO I don’t hate the kids that are winning with it, the olds could be winning with it and I still wouldn’t watch, it just doesn’t interest me.

I don’t like FFS in tournaments, but in the 2 clubs I fish with I have yet to see anyone win with FFS that that didn’t win before.

All of the hammers I know with FFS were hammers before FFS.

What I have seen is some of these guys that used to win often, but were beatable, are pretty much unbeatable now.

Both clubs fished Thomas last year. We had 1 guy with one club catch 1 fish. We had 2 guys from the other club catch a few fish. 25+ fisherman on a lake they are very familiar with and I believe 7 fish were brought in.

One of the “unbeatable guys I’m talking about was fishing the same day and had a 45# sack.

The working man can’t compete with these guys that look at that screen everyday. It’s taken the fun out of the working man tournaments because it would take me months of weekends to spend the amount of time behind a screen that these guys do in a week, especially during the heat of the summer and the dead of winter.

Without FFS I can compete with them. I’ve only broken 30#s once, and these guys are breaking 40# daily. I’m just giving my money away if I fish against them with FFS. But I’m not complaining, I just don’t fish the “working man” tourneys anymore.

How many did you win before FFS?

Club tournaments, I’ve done just fine before and after FFS. Leading both clubs in AOY this year and won 4 years in a row with 1 of them. On average over the last 6 years I’ve probably finished in the top three 40-50% of the time.

FFS hasn’t really affected the club tournaments. Most are working men that don’t spend countless days on the water every week staring at a screen. Pretty much none of them are scoping out individual big fish like the guys that are extremely good at it are.

But 2 or 3 guides that would occasionally fish the working mans tourney during the week, no one was going to beat them. I’ve won a few of those pre-FFS. Now, I just don’t fish them.

They are great guys, and I love competing with them. Without FFS I know they are going to beat me more times than not. But I like the challenge. Every now and then I will beat them and it’s worth all the other times they won my money. No one is fishing these small tourneys for money.

I have no problems losing at all, but when reality says you don’t have a shot, it’s really takes the fun out of it.

I have stopped fishing tournaments. If you are not very proficient with FFS then your chances of success go way down in the majority of the bigger trails. I'm not very good with it. No point in donating money. I also don't have the time to spend on the water to get good with it. I'm good with just fun fishing these days.

I am just the opposite. I spent 20 years right out of high school playing all over the Texas area in Men's Fastpitch Softball. There was no money to be won, maybe a trophy or two here and there. But I spent all of that money over those years averaging approximately 16 tournaments a year along with a couple of league games during the week and didn't look at it as donating my money but rather spending it doing something I loved competing against other people living the same lifestyle.
When I started bass fishing after retiring from that sport I was fishing every weekend, during holidays and vacations and became a little bit competitive at the club level. Now 20+ years later I no longer spend that time on the water and enjoy being with the 4 grown kids, 9 grandkids and a great granddaughter doing family things so now I am limited to a couple of times a month on the water with some buddies but still love competing in tournaments. I don't see it as donating my money but rather like when I played my softball tournaments I am paying to be able to do something I love even if I can't be competitive like in the past. If next year someone told me at age 72 I was not going to be allowed to enter tournaments I would just quit because just fun fishing doesn't do it for me. I love the mind games of bass fishing, the challenge against the fish, the takeoff on tournament morning. I don't mind FFS even though if I won a lotto and bought me another boat even though I would have the equipment to fool around with it I would still be a power shallow water angler fishing the way I love to fish. I don't even mind watching guys fishing tournaments with it and especially like the guys that use it and some shallow water techniques at the same time. But I do have some of the same thoughts about what the sport became before a lot of the technology was brought on board and the way I learned to bass fish by using instincts and feelings and experience is the way I still like to fish and the anticipation of the bite from out of nowhere is my favorite thing that I look forward to when fishing.

I'm more of the type that if I feel like I don't have a chance to win then I'm not going to do it. Fishing is a lot like golf. It requires a lot of practice/prep time. In my opinion you need to be on the water 2-3 days a week to be really competitive. Just showing up to a tournament and hoping I'm going to be competitive just to complete doesn't do it for me.

With most evening jack pot tournaments only lasting 3-4 hours I doubt LS would keep most guys from competing/winning?

I can think of 2 lakes down here that the thursday nighters are now 100% won by scopers every week. Takes 25+ most nights

Were those same scopers always in contention in past years?
