I remember catching my first real keeper bass. Was on the Apple River fishing off my grandpas dock. I was fishing for dinner catching crappie and brim using a 3" white grub. I decided to drop it down between the pier and this opening in the weeds. Line went tight and started to swim away. I set the hook and started to fight a 2.5lb LM. I was a freak chasing it up and down the dock. When I landed it, I grabbed it by the jaw and ran up to the house. I dumped it into a 5 gallon bucket, hosed it down, and waited proudly until my Grandpa returned from the store. He was a Musky and Northern fisherman. He hated those green fish. When he saw how proud I was, he took the fish from me. I thought he was going to filet it for dinner. Unbeknownst to me, he put it in his freezer. Next year I arrived for my annual Summer stay. We went to his buddies house to get something. There on his buddies bench was my 2.5lb bass mounted to hang next to his 48" Northern and 52" musky. I still to this day have it wrapped in bubble wrap and stored away. Age has worn at it so it's not a beauty anymore.
