I agree with the sentiments already expressed regarding the lake's mismanagement.
Not as bad as what they did to Lake Raven in Huntsville but still a greatly diminished bass fishery.
I think the theory for both lakes was to kill grass to create bank fishing opportunities for campers since both lakes have camping sites. It was hard to cast beyond the vegetation back when it had grass.
*** But, I'd tell you to go on out and it might meet some of your requirements, perhaps just dial back expectations. I was fishing there one day back around 2017 and a guy caught a 13 pounder in the cove behind the fishing pier. I don't think I ever caught anything larger than 5 lbs. but I had trips when I caught 10 or so 2 pounders.
Lots of stump fields, standing timber. It's still a good crappie lake but they are usually on the small side.
Someone mentioned Mill Creek in Canton. It's a featureless, small lake with a former reputation for big bass. I went out there several times. I caught fish but had better outcomes on Purtis Creek.

Camp at Purtis Creek and fish at Athens. Worked well for my son and I this summer.

That place used to have biggens, crying shame what if whats posted here is true. Tourney partner caught a spawned out giant on a trip we made there in 2006, we didn't have a scale but did have a camera (this was before smart phones kids), to this day its still easily his PB.
