I’ve always applied wax to my boat by hand. Trying to save my shoulders, any reason not to use my 7” dewalt buffer? I have a black 3M foam polishing pad that I can run on 600 RPM.

Make sure you’re in the shade so you don’t burn it.

Orbital polisher would be better but yeah. The pad is going to fill up quick from wax. Then you'll just be smearing it.

Do you have a brand of orbital polisher you recommend? I want the right tool for the job. Reading up on these orbital polishers isn’t as likely to leave swirls on the gelcoat? Is a long throw or short throw orbital better?

The Dewalt is expensive. I'd honestly try the harbor freight one.
These are short throw almost like they vibrate but don't. As for swirl marks, buffer will leave them too. Just make sure everything is clean. Boat, you, the rags, and the pad. Let it float along, not pushing it hard against the surface. Changing pads often. Rags to rub the wax dust off.
Get yourself a stool. Relaxing area and polish up your boat.
