Last year Lil Moto decided to go full speed ahead into her career as a pilot. The HS offered a pilot program, and this year as a Senior she's getting her PPL. Next year she starts the pilot program at TWU with a goal of becoming a commercial pilot.

I've given some serious thought into buying a plane for her, but renting it out for flight hours. Our company pilots have answered most of my questions, but I still have a few. Lots of risk involved

One of the greatest accomplishments of my life, was the day I solo'ed in flight school. I can only wish her the absolute best in her flight career, hope it turns out amazing for the little munchkin! Starting so young, she will go far. Only reason I quit was because 9/11 came along and the prices of flight school as well as all the hoops you had to jump through, became much greater than the reward at the time.

As far as buying and renting out a plane, man I don't know if it's worth the risk these days. Does it sound awesome, yes! There is a metric chit ton of maintenance that has to be done and I do believe, has to filed with the FAA. Then there is insurance, too. Wish I could give you a better answer, but it's just the costs associated with owning and the up keep that would steer me away from ownership. That said however, baby girl flying you and the family to the coast for a weekend getaway would be priceless!

Only thing I can add really is that I've heard from an international commercial pilot, that cancer rates are higher amongst pilots. Something about flying where the atmosphere is thinner and less things to block radiation. Have no idea if this holds true.

A plane is an enormous expense. A guy at work has one as well as a gyro copter. On other guy is building one.

My oldest son got his license last month and is now working on his instrument rating. He ordered a new plane last year and picked in up a few weeks ago. It's not an inexpensive endeavor.

3 or. 4 way partenarship, if you can find good partners, is an option.flying clubs can be good. 1 person ownership is a pain, with lack of use and all the paperwork. Insurance is expensive whether you use the plane or not.

My son flies Triple 7s for United. The cancer thing is true. Primarily it's skin cancers, which are easy to watch for and make go away. He goes to a derm doctor on a regular basis. So far so good.

Also know there are different rules for experimental and commercial aircraft.

Back when I was jumping regularly, many pilots flying jumpers to altitude were newer pilots building hours-
Instead of paying for flight time-
This was just at the smaller drop zones-
You would just have to get comfortable flying with the door open for a bit and closing the door after the last jumper leaves-
Just a thought-

What has happed to you does not define who you are-

HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!
