Got some work to do down in the valley next week and might have time to do some fishing while I am down there. I have never been to South Padre so I am not familiar with the area.

I have looked at some satellite images and it looks like there are a few beach access points when you head north after passing over the Causeway. Should I just pick one of those spots or are there places to avoid?

Thanks for any help!

What are you wanting to catch? What will you have as far as equipment? Surf is all about the wind and how rough it is.

Earlier the better, if it's flat you can wear out trout in the first cut. If it's howling, then look left and start you wade at the convention center and stay on the bay side.

I don’t care what I catch. I’m open to anything. I’ll have some smaller spinning rods as well as some bigger surf spinning setups.

1/8 oz screw lock head with a swim bait or sand eel with 20# braid will handle anything you hook.

If the surf is really flat a topwater will absolutely wear them out.

26th through 30th I will be out of contact at a cabin up on the land cut. But if you're around after that I can put you on some fish in the Laguna. It'll be tough, but I guess I can let someone on my boat with a spinning rod, LOL. We'd be fishing either out of the Arroyo Colorado or Port Mansfield, depending on water levels. If we have to do it on a weekend (I don't normally fish weekends or holidays) it'll be PM; there's fewer googans there than at the Arroyo on weekends. Let me know. I'll have water and Gatorade aboard. You're welcome to bring some beer, but if you get drunk you'll be walking back to the ramp. We'd be on the water at sunup and return by early to mid afternoon. There's a good chance we'd do a little wading.

A smart man would take Jim up on his offer, if you've never experienced the LLM, you're going to be quite amazed.

Hey Jim,

I really appreciate the offer but I wont have much free time while I am down there. I'll be lucky to get a few hours in.

I have my best luck using live mullet. Mostly reds and trout, but there are drum, Spanish mackerel, jack crevalle, and sharks too. I hooked something that I thought was going to spool me on my medium action gear and I never gained on it last time fishing the surf. I was fishing the wade gut and that fish got close to the second bar before it broke me off.
