7.3 L pushrod gas motor. I'm thinking of going this way in the future for the F250 I am wanting to order.

I'm just not wanting a Diesel truck for several reasons. What say ye all wise ones of the OT regarding the 7.3L Godzilla motor?

Seems to be a pretty solid engine. Liking the low rpm torque of the new pushrods.

I don't think you could go wrong with this unless you planned on max towing.

Towing long distances and towing heavy is when a diesel can really come to be an advantage.

Of course, there are people like myself who just have gotten used to driving diesels and anything else would be a hard adjustment.

Getting there and back safely and comfortably is the name of the game.

I have a 2022 and love it so far. Don’t really “need” the 7.3 for towing just a bass boat but I did “want” it, so here I am.

Buddy at work has one. I have the 6.7L. If you don't need the diesel, the 7.3L is a great option. It's probably what I should have bought.

It doesn't really pull much different than the 6.2 or their newer 6.8 or whatever it is, but it gets really excellent mpg and drives really nicely. They do have some cam/lifter problems with it if I recall, but I think it's more internet hype than reality - my buddy commutes nearly 1.5 hours each day with his (each way) and hasn't had a single issue. He's gotta be nearing 100k on it. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I didn't want to deal with the diesel headaches.

What gas mileage does he get with the gas 7.3?

He gets 18-20 on the highway. 14-15 around town.

Can't really speak for the 7.3l but the 6.8l is quite the upgrade from the 6.2l. Power comes in lower and better economy. Like most of today's gas engine, the 6.2l was a screamer. Power didn't hit until around 3500 rpms.

I have heard that as well, but I've never driven one myself. The new chevy gas motor is nice as well. Glad to see all brands fixing some of the weakness of the HD gas motors.

More like 15 hwy/12 in-town on a good tank.

Great input, thanks. The sales person I spoke with while my f150 was getting serviced, said the 6.8 L is available as well but only in the XL and fleet trucks. I am looking at the Lariat package. I dunno what things will look like in 2025, but i will probably order one. I dont drive daily back and forth to work anymore so 15 mpg around town would be ok.

The 15 / 12 is what I have experienced on mine.

I have a 2021 7.3 in the Tremor package so keep in mind it has lower gears and 35” tires from factory. I logged mileage at every single fill-up and hand calculated mpg’s for the first two years. I get 13.5 on the highway empty, 7.5 pulling a 32’ ft camper and 10 pulling a 20’ center console. I had a few road trips trips where I got a little over 14. I upgraded the gas tank (replaced original tank, not add an auxiliary) to transfer flows 58 gallon tank to reduce the amount of fuel stops when pulling the camper which helps, but you are going to spend $150+ at the pump. Overall, I like the truck. I have not had any issues at all. You will get a little better mileage if you opt for a non-tremor package but you will not get 20 mpg in real world highway driving.

For what it’s worth, if I had to do it all over again I’d still be split on whether or not to get the diesel. I pondered that decision for a year, but I already had an older 7.3 diesel at home. Ultimately, it came down to cost and what was available when this one just showed up on the lot during covid. Hope some of this helps.

No one is getting 20 mpg on a 7.3 gasser, maybe if their entire commute is 55mph down hill with the wind at their back.
