Does the live well drain inside the livewell only need to be plugged if you are running recirc?

If I am going to run the aerator on “manual - on” all day, do I need to have the livewell drain plugged inside the livewell?

If you dont plug the livewell water will run out to the water line.

When you’re running it would go dry. Yes plug it.

Agree we need more information to answer the question. There may be two "drains." The first would be the livewell drain that is typically controlled by the remote plug. The second (on Skeeter for example) is an "overflow" drain with a plug that can actually be placed to allow the livewell to fill to the top of the lids(and more, unfortunately). With this plug in, the livewell overflows to bilge instead of outside the boat.

Some have a two or three way mechanical valve that opens and shuts the live well drain. On the Bass Cat I had there were three positions On-Off-Recirc.

On drain was 100% open
Off drain was 100% closed
Recirc drain had a restriction that brought in maybe 10% outside water into the recirculating pump.
It also and Pro Air which allowed the pump to Venturi in some air through the recirculate pump. Timer on the recirculating pump. Left it on constant.

Always used Off when it was hot. Cool the water some with an additive like catch and release.
