Went 20 years without using them because I had no confidence. Made myself commit to them this year and it’s been working out for me. 21.79 bag for 1st and big! Had some major line issues and lost 3 that would’ve helped

I did the same thing about 3 years ago. I'd been participating in the sport since the 70's and tournament fishing since the late mid 80's and just neve could develop any confidence in the jig. Up until three years ago I had caught one fish on a jig. I knew I needed it to really competitive in this sport and just decided I'd go to the water for a year and do nothing but throw the jig and it worked out. After I kind of got the feel for it I went to Lake Holbrook and loaded the boat one morning, it was really good day. I don't use it all the time but some time during the day I'm going to pick one up.

It's a fun bite. Usually unique depending on conditions and time of year.

Funny you say that. I have not “felt” a single bite on them yet (except for bluegill)…line either gets heavy or moves and they all have been hooked really well. Is this normal?

I am not a jig expert and I've learned that nothing in bass fishing is 'normal'. However fishing jigs in summer your description is very similar to anything I have experienced. I don't like to "lose" sight of my line at anytime while fishing a jig.

My 1st swim jig catch was on a white swim jig with paddle tail trailer cut down. I was picking out a backlash and started to reel up all the slack. Partner had taken over the trolling motor so the jig was stationary for a short time then the balance of the slack was taken up. When I got back to a taut line it was heavy but coming toward me. Realized it might be a fish and set the hook. Fight was on with about 50 yds of line still out.

Try them at night. You will really feel the bite then.

That was the main reason I never liked fishing them and after setting my mind to fishing with a jig no matter what it finally registered on me that most of the bites were just going to feel like you were dragging the jig over or through some weeds. The day it finally clicked I'd feel that and then get the jig back to the boat and what ever trailer I had on the jig would be stripped down the hook kind of like what you get with a Texas rigged worm bite sometimes. I probably put the trailer back on the hook a half a dozen times that day. When I felt the weeds again I just set the hook and it was a fish and from then on any resistance was a hook set.

They will definitely let you know they bit if you stroke a 3/4 offshore! They crush it on the fall.

I was struggling to consistently catch fish at some of the DFW area lakes. Once I started throwing 1/4 to 1/2 oz jigs around rocky/gravel areas I found success pretty much year round.

I used to throw jigs all the time. Some of my biggest fish came from a Black n Blue structure jig or a green pumpkin structure jig.

I have over 100 jigs. Thanks for reminding me. roflmao

I get complacent with throwing worms sometimes.

We do get complacent, fall into a rut.

I keep a jig tied on always. If I am getting bit on a worm or a crankbait I will throw the jig in there. I haven't caught a giant on a jig yet but I did catch a 15 and six more over 12.

Jig fishing is meh. roflmao It is my favorite. I've caught a few on jigs the past 45 years. First bass was on a black hair jig on lake weatherford when I was 6 (in 1979). Dad would only let me use a jig so I wouldnt keep hanging up in the reeds. roflmao
