Maybe I’ve lost my touch!! Or it could be I’m fishing too deep, too much current, too cold of water! And sometimes too salty!! First trip to Alaska fishing for me, my son, and dad and it’s been the trip of a lifetime!! I’ve got some fall dates left if you wanna load the freezer! I don’t fish much when it’s stupid hot. My buddy says heats hard on old people and cattle! So I must be old!! Anyhow, here’s some pics to share with my TFF friends!

I lived in Alaska from 1980 to 1986. Love that State, but they have lots of new rules, limits, and the population exploded up there. I'm sure very different from when I was there.

I believe you may be early, but you need to go when you can fish the Silver Salmon run. That was my favorite salmon to fish for. Kings would be my second. Then Pink's. Red were probably my least favorite to fish.

Halibut is a must anytime you go up there. That is probably the closest to fishing for Crappie feeling that Thump!!

I don't know about your guide but anything over 100 pounds up there they would usually shoot it with a 410 shotgun shell before bringing it in the boat. They would kill you.

Scenery is second to none up there.

Dolly Varden and Grayling are also a blast to catch up there.

We would throw out a Mepps spinner and real back slowly and those Grayling would hammer it.

They still using Spin N Glo's with a treble hook and cured salmon eggs for bait with the salmon?

I believe for the Halibut it was just a herring on a curled hook.

Smoked halibut and smoked salmon! Hard to beat! I do some with lemon and pepper seasoning and some with a 50/50 mixture of soy sauce and 100% maple syrup. Right before taking them out of the smoker lightly glaze them with the 100% maple syrup. Thank me later!

I want to smoke some salmon!! The halibut is too delicious to smoke!! I might hit you up for more instructions when I get home!! Little man caught a great Dolly Varden today!! Might go floss some sockeyes across from the Russian river ferry tomorrow but we leave early Wednesday for Texas. Been an amazing trip! Super glad I got to share it with my dad and my son!

We booked everything last summer. With that said the first place I was looking at couldn’t get us in until 2027. We found this guy and got the cabin booked. He did all fhe trips and gave me the rental car company!! Ron with Eagle Eye Vacation Rentals in Sterling. God willing I’ll be back! Absolutely the trip of a lifetime for me! Pops was wore out and little man slept in so I went along after a Christmas color salmon and I wrecked em!! Probably caught 40 in 3 hours. Had 10 chrome fish to get 3 hooked in the mouth!! Thanks for a great visit Alaska!! I hope to see you again soon!!
