Fishing in the spring was crazy you could fish all day with only 2 bites which may have been big fish but the lack of smaller fish was what was missing after the alge bloom . It seemed that most fish were deep and my dept finder showed a lot of fish in 50 + feet of water and shallow was all most with out fish

It's not worth a 15 minute drive either with 105 temps

Whitney was a whoopin yesterday, Granbury always sucks and now PK? Love me some PK but guess I’ll wait till they start dumping trout in the river below the dam next winter before I drive back up to PK.

I just received an email back from Brazos River Authority in Waco concerning the situation on Possum Kingdom lake. Unfortunately, there is nothing they can do to stop it right now, but they are working on it.
My contact said that the golden algae bloom is prevalent in several texas lakes as well as others, but from another source I found out that PK has a high amount of saline and minerals which makes the bloom more active. It also blooms more actively in the winter, but still blooms year round.
Reading "between the lines" we might be in for more bad news about PK fishing as well as other lakes. I hope not.
Wouldn't it be a losy deal if it started showing up in East Texas lakes.
I've fished Possum Kingdom for over fifty years and thought I knew all the good spots, but right now.
I think I'll go back to deer hunting because I'm not catching much at all there. Not worth the trip.
I don't think BRA is overlooking the issue, I think they are trying to get this algae under control but it might be a while

Hope it changes,
Good luck

I'm hopeful the lowe salinity of East Texas lakes and lack for limestone introducing high mineral content will keep it from ever blooming out there! The Brazos river is unique in what it flows through from PK to Whitney...

Always wondered why Granbury water was so high in Salinity when i was a kid....

This also explains why you don't see frogs and other creatures that feed in that water. The algae bloom effects it all.
Any way, it's too bad.

I was there this morning. Caught a few but very few. Wasn't worth the drive and it will be a while before I go back.
