Hoping to buy one in the next year or 2. Doing a ton of research first. Is one really any better than the other? I will buy new, leave them stock and basically maintain them to the book. I'm not hard on anything and take care of my stuff as I suffer with OCD. lol. My dream truck has always been a F-250 King Ranch but I see a lot of Hot shotters running the cummins and that tells me something. Anyone have any input? I have zero desire to tune it, or modify it. It will be a camper and boat puller. Thank in advance.

F250 King Ranch

I only say this, as I know 3 guys all friends of mine who have put well over 200K miles, one 350K. They brag about only having to replace the fuel filters, standard maintenance, etc.

Hot Shotters run Rams because their the cheapest of the big three. I’m back in a 1/2 ton now but had a ‘13 Platinum that I put 100k on without issue and a ‘20 Lariat that. Put over 60k on without any problems too.

Been a Chevy guy my entire life. I pamper all my vehicles, and will put 250 to 300,000 miles on em, it’s the interior that falls apart. Get you the king ranch, I bought one 19 months ago and love it every time I jump in it. Those hot shoters with those Cummins are working the heck out of them, because of price, but go look at the interior and tell me the how you really feel.

Prepare to hate DPF emissions systems. There is a reason so many delete them.

I have a 2020 Ram 2500 with 6.7 it’s plenty nice inside. It’s a Laramie Longhorn. It’s been in the shop a number of times. All related in one way or another to the emissions system. When a dealership near Baton Rouge did warranty work they failed to do it correctly. Apparently they failed to torque the injectors to spec. That resulted in a bunch of issues. After a half dozen times in the shop it’s been good for a couple of months now. (knock on wood). It has 50K miles on it. It’s great when it stays out of the shop. It’s the only vehicle I have ever owned where I carry a code reader in it. Scared that the check engine light could come on at any time. Hopefully, it’s past the in the shop issues and is going to be trouble free for an awhile.

So far I wish I had brought another F150 Super Crew 4x4 with Ecoboost. Last 4 of them had less issues combined than the Ram. The Ram can redeem its self with a long trouble free run. The work was primarily under warranty so it’s not been a lot of cost yet.

It’s a beast pulling the boat. I got it to put a 5th Wheel Travel trailer behind it.

How big is your camper?

I know this is about the Ford and Dodge but the Chevy baby Duramax in a 1500 would be my recommendation so long as its rated to pull your trailer.

Its getting up to 30 mpg on the highway and pulls good for a half ton.

Exactly. I've heard the DEF fluid refered to as Obama fluid.

I just switched our trucks over to Ford from Ram. I got rid of a 1-3500 DRW Laramie, 3-2500 Laramie's, and 1- 2500 Limited. I replaced the Laramie's with Lariat's and the Limited with a Platinum. I only did this because It's nice looking at a different interior and body . That being said the new HO Powerstroke is a beast, the Cummins will pull anything you want to put behind it and is no slouch but it won't be as froggy as the HO Powerstroke. I didn't have any problems with the Ram's and I would argue that the fit and finish of the interior is still above that of Ford. I had to replace those vehicles for tax purposes, but wouldn't have hesitated keeping them for the sake of reliability. I suppose time will tell on the reliability of the Fords...

I wouldn't buy a diesel unless you need a diesel. How much weight are you towing?

I sold my 2016 F250 @220k and bought a new Ram 6.7. The Powersteoke is the best truck that I've ever owned.....except for the damn death wobble every 40k or so. My Ram 6.7 has 22.5k on it now and I just noticed either the oil pan or rear main seal is leaking.

As the owner of a modern diesel, there's no way I'd buy one unless I needed one AND I could delete it. If you're in the "buy and keep it stock" mode, buy a Ford 6.2 used or 7.3 new. Both will tow anything you could reasonably put behind it.

my HO Cummins is a beast..Pulls my 5th Wheel with no issues. But we do not use it very often so that is a lot of money going out the door to tow big trailer 4 times per year... better just doing VRBO if that is what you are going to be doing.

Cmon now you know how many guys have convinced their wives that nothing less than a 3/4 ton diesel on 35” tires will tow a bass boat…🤷‍♂️😆

The F250 gets significantly better mileage pulling and empty. That said the Ram is going to be $10k+ cheaper and you can buy a lot of diesel for 20% les MPG. I went with the RAM 2500 6.7 and have no regrets, it has a great ride and maybe better than the F250. Of course the resale on the F250 is better but I'm good with that, the RAM does everything I need.
