We're going to AK in a few weeks as well.

The plan is to hit any Diner, Drive In, Dive locations. Then ask the locals what we should see.

That's a good idea.

We've done several Alaskan cruises and our stay in Seattle is one of the best parts of the vacation. Number one must see is Pike's Place Market. One can spend a day there and not see everything.

The last time I was there. I hired a fishing guide to fish for salmon in the Pugent Sound. It was great fun

If you plan on renting a car you could drive down to see Mt. St. Helens.

Or you could drive over to Mt Rainier, very scenic and it you want to do some hiking, quite a few trails.

Isn't Dale Chihuly's gallery in Seattle area? That would be worthy of a visit!

I am heading to Alaska in September for a week, I believe my layover will be in Portland before flying to Anchorage and heading up to Denali.
Still watching the road closure status. Apparently falling rocks have been bad this year and shut down the highway

+1 on the underground tours and museums. Also, Pike Place market, Seattle aquarium, ballard locks, museum of history in industry was interesting. I think they have a flight museum but I didn’t make it there. It’s also a beautiful place to go out on a sailboat if you can arrange it. Great view of the city from the water, but I suppose you’ll have that view from the cruise ship as well. I’m headed on an Alaskan cruise for the first time in a few weeks myself.. Have fun!

I've done the Seattle stay on an Alaska cruise and we've also done the Vancouver departure.

I don't remember a whole lot about Seattle didn't impressed me. Vancouver on the other hand had a lot going for it. I know that's not the question but if I were to book again we would definitely do Vancouver departure just because there's so much to do in that City. It's really worth going a couple of days early kind of like you're doing with Seattle. Good luck and enjoy your cruise it's awesome!
