This was a great trip to help unwind after the chaos of the Hurricane

Great video as always. Nice fish. cheers

Side Note: The fish you were calling Longear are actually Redbreast. You guys caught some very nice Bluegill and Redbreast. Good eating fish for sure. Also you might have caught more sunfish fishing off the bottom using light tackle. 4 to 6 pound test line, Size eight Cricket Hook with s small weight (shot). Walmart usually has some good fishing combo sales going on. You can pickup a good sunfish rod/reel combo for $9.89. Again a super video as always. Keep em coming. thumb

Also as mentioned in your video, sunfish are great baits for catfish and gar! You can also catch a nice bass using the smaller sunfish (live) with a bobber. cheers

thanks for watching!! I don't post too many bluegill/sunfish videos because they don't get many views, but they are always a fun time to catch. That little rod I had at the beginning of the video had 3lb pound test line but the fish actually snapped it twice when they picked up the worm! So I switched to a longer rod that I was able to tie a fluorocarbon leader to. Unfortunately it was a carp/catfish rod because that's what I planned on using once we caught the bluegills for bait. Typically I just use a lightweight bass rod that I have.

Once the bite slowed down I actually did remove the float and put a small split shot on. I think I got 3 off the bottom with that setup before I put the float back on.

How can I tell the difference between a long ear and a redbreast? Or is a long ear not an actual species? I'm not too familiar with these fish, other than I just love catching them, and eating them occasionally

There are six types of basic sunfish. #1. The Redear, #2 Bluegill, #3 Redbreast, #4 Green Sunfish, #5 Longear, and #6 Warmouth. The Redbreast is known for it's long ears and red belly. The Longear has short ears, and is very colorful. The Longear is also the smallest of the six, but puts up a heck of a fight for it's size. Sunfish are a blast to catch using light tackle. Texas Parks & Wildlife has photos of all the different freshwater and saltwater fish on their website. It also has the identification characteristics of each fish. Your videos are great. Keep up the GREAT productions. thumb
