So here is my .02 that no one asked for lol. The brands that he talked about and the two that just released at this Icast is geared to the tournament fisherman hands down. I just purchased the TitanX 12.5 which was released at the last Icast is huge but I wanted something that had a lot of room and super stable which the X fits that bill perfect for me. I believe these kayak brands cant justify the cost of the mold for a NEW smaller style pedal kayak vs what they already offer. Everything right now is geared towards the hardcore tournament angler.

There's several pedal kayak companies out there that officer sub $1500 options such as Perception, Vibe, Hoodoo, Pelican, Brooklyn, Seastream and more, so there's really no reason for the major 5ish kayak companies to reinvent the wheel per say. I get what he is saying but at the same time he's not a tournament fisherman so these drops were not geared towards his needs. I will say this, me personally would never buy a kayak that doesn't offer a pedal system. So the brands mentioned in the video along with Nucanoe I would pass on.

Since buying the TitanX I have completely decked it out and get more negative comments then I do positive as far as "why don't you just buy a boat?" or "why is all that stuff needed?" to which I reply because I don't want a boat and its my money. I do have to trailer mine but that is partially because of the size and I also drive a suv.

Heck the kayak in the thumbnail is only a 1/2" wider than mine lol

I agree 100%! I am of the opinion that many models are no longer "kayaks", including my Hobie PA14.

When I bought my first PA several years ago, I called it a "boat". The thing weighs 150 lbs empty and requires wheels to move. Granted, it is made of plastic, only fits one person and I can fit it in my truck bed. However, these are the only "kayak" qualities.... the rest are small boat aspects.

Dont get me wrong, I love it (so much that I bough 360 when they came out), but I am of the stong opinion that it's not a "kayak".

As far as Hobie is concerned... I think the largest "kayak" that they have is the Outback. This model is not great to paddle, but it can be paddled like a kayak. My PA cannot (when it must be paddled, its best paddled like a canoe)

I remember when Point 65 N came out with the first modular kayaks. It was way before its time.. just checked them out and they are still in business. Seems that some other companies are getting with the program.

Looks like there are others that have been paying attention too.

If a person wants one of these new plastic barges masquerading as a "kayak", they can save a bundle and get a jon boat or pond prowler type for A LOT less moola.
Same weight or less, more capacity, and can be rowed. Anything with a motor requires titling and tags. If a trailer is needed then drop the dime on a real boat, the video dude is spot on in his assessment.
