I currently use Okuma Record Chaser 8' or 9' designed by Kirkland for gar and shark/bull reds coupled with an 8000 bait runner spinning reel. I like the action, the weight spacing of the guides and decent power of the rod. However, the rods are discontinued and the eyes are the weak link with the inserts breaking and needing replaced. Anyone have a strong recommendation on a substitute for the Record Chaser?

I can't speak for shark fishing, but for gar the Ugly Stik Tiger rods are what I use to target the big ones. They are $80 and durable as can be. I've landed tons of 5'+ gar on them. Not many bells and whistles, just a basic workhorse. I know a lot of other people love the Mad Katz, Hell Cats, and Whisker Seekers as well.
