there has always been a correction coming after covid manufacturers pipeline the dealers have way too much non current inventory sitting on their lots they cant sell because a lot of the folks bought boats during covid that werent boat people an now those boats are on the market with little or no interest it will be a bumpy ride in the future for boat dealers an the bigger they are the more they will be hurt. the interest rate for folks with great credit is very high an that is another factor that hurts the market.

Any market whether it be boats or what ever; when there is a reaction there is an opposite reaction.
We don't normally see that in the auto industry; everything in that market just seems to continue higher, I think mainly because there is a sort of forced demand but I think even that market is going to have to correct, they've gone to far. I follow the auto industry because my dad was a car dealer when I was a young man. I'm starting to hear rumblings of bankruptcy from at least a couple of the big three; don't know how true that is; but one thing is for sure, time will tell.

I suspect there are a bunch of people in the boating industry in trouble. Some will deny that there is a problem but I think it's clear there will be. Managing through a sales spike is one thing, managing through a fall is much tougher and requires some hard choices and timing.

Dealers will take the worst brunt of it. I'm sure a few manufacturers will fall as well.

The entire fishing industry was up anywhere between 50% and 100% during COVID and 18 months later most of the industry was down 50% or more. Most should be still net up but a bunch aren't because big/fast growth is EXPENSIVE and if you don't manage the cash well during that time, if/when you have issues it can be catastrophic. I have lived through this in my business and thankfully, we pulled through it. There will continue to be more consolidation across the industry as the "haves" with cash by those without.

Mercury and Yamaha will be fine. They'll make the adjustments needed... The question is can Suzuki and Honda make adjustments since the own such a small share of the market... Dan

All 4 along with Tahatsu are global. The US bass boat market is a drop in the bucket compared to overall sales.

Agreed, every time we have an economic down turn we probably loose around half of the boating industry, especially bass boat manufacturers. Its mainly the newer ones in the game. They did nothing wrong other than get into the market at the wrong time. That being said, I think if I were going to do boat manufacturing right now would be the time to get in, it's all going to be up hill from here.

believe me nobody with a brain is going into boat manufacturing at this time because of the huge inventories of new 2 year old boats sitting on deales lots that they cant sell now. there are folks that will spend over 90 k on a boat but not very many with 800 credit will pay 7% interest on one. look at how many boats are for sale at the prices they are listed for some on bbc have been for sale for over a year. this is going to be a bumpy ride for a good time forward there are dealers out there trying to sell new bass boats for there real invoice an no takers . the big manufacturers have gotten use to selling all the boats they could sell at good margins an now the pipeline is full of boats an they have hard choices to make on how many folks they will have to lay off.

Lots of spending is slowing down. Election year and past years have been higher than high.

I don't think it will. It's been 3-4 years. If people were needing to dump them they would've already.
