I rode for a little while when I was working downtown. Ultimately it took about the same amount of time, but it was much less stressful than driving on 35. Also have taken it several times to Stars games. You'll see tons of green on a game night.

I've never thought it to be unsafe, but very once in a while, you'll run into some sketchy individuals. Some of the train stops are in pretty rough areas of town. I wouldn't ride it at night, except for after Stars games when it is full of fans.

Yes, 3 times a week to downtown Dallas from north Dallas, and it beats the hell out of driving. It’s way cheaper, just as fast, more dependable when I get to work, and I can catch up on reading.

The line you take makes a big difference. And also peak times when professionals are riding vs off peak riffraff are riding makes a huge difference.

Over the lasted several months they have really beefed up security and checking fares, it got really bad for a while with the homeless riding, many homeless riding just to sleep and get out of the heat. But they have made big strides in cleaning that up, but depending on the line and peak/off peak, you still get it.

Central expressway is reaching critical mass again from Lemmon Ave all the way up to Eldorado.
Needs to be eight lanes in both directions immediately.

Until it’s ten lanes in both directions from Van Alstyne to Elm Street; DART will be quicker.

Having the HOV lane currently closed from Plano Pkwy to McDermott is really Fubaring up the entire flow at the moment.

I don't live there anymore, but when I rode it I always carried a concealed pistol. Never had the slightest need for it but I wouldn't ride without it.
No different than in my truck except a helluva lot quicker ride.

Not sure what it was called back in the early 70s. We rode it to the state fair from north Dallas. I will never forget when by buddy brought some eggs with him. Back then you could open the windows on bus. When we stopped at a light he would put his arm out and wave at people in a car then reach behind him grab an egg and hit the car in windshield.

Not DART but HOP.

$1 to ride. The bus has cold AC. If you have no where to really go. It's like taking a tour. Only had one driver tell me I got my $1 worth. Most wouldn't care if you went around three times and if they did. Connecting bus then back to their bus. Especially after a shift change. Some drivers were cool. You could sit behind them and chat it up.

Temple to Killeen took three hours because of all the stops. Around Temple was 20-30minutes depending on where you were going.

DTS. Dallas Transit System. Buses ran up and down in front of our house on Lindlsey when I was a kid.
You may have rode right past me on the way to the fair from your fancy north Dallas neighborhood.

Thanks guys. They hired 100 officers last year and Dart crime is up 18% for Q2 2024 over Q2 2023. Last time we rode the train, it wreaked of urine. Something isn’t working. Cities are beginning to take notice.

You ride any public city rail system and you will get that. I can say I have been riding dart red line for 10 years and never smelt urine. But it wouldn’t surprise me, it’s public, and homelessness is on the rise in the metroplex. They need to pretty much have cops/fare enforcement on every train, they do now on the red line at least during peak hours when I ride. But if I work late and ride home during off peak, any time after 6:30, the crazy people on the train goes up 10x.

I us.ed to work for DART, do PR for them back in 1990.

It was my first job out of college, long before the DART rail.

Back then, it was the bus system and handi-rides for the disabled.

There were some good people there as coworkers, and some bad people, managers, like all companies.

Now, I ride DART from a train station to Dallas Stars games and to the State Fair, so easy!

I'm never afraid, and I am amazed at many people who ride DART, the good, bad and the odd!

...!
