Definitely not going to sportfishingbuddy.com if he’s from Minnesota he is probably a good guy, but that website sounds weird to me.

Trick worm 10.25in.
Magnum trick worm 12.20 in. Those are very specific lengths, ok, I’ll try that.

I was just kidding. I did not actually measure them, just trying to be funny.
I fish for largemouth not smallmouth bass because I fish (TEXAS) lakes, but most of the time on my drop shot I have the weight about 3-4 inches longer than the worm I am using. That seems to work. I have not done any experiments changing leader lengths to see if it mattered on a drop shot.
All of my drop shotting is done with baitcasters. I don't use spinning tackle and 8# test line, but that is just me, I use what I like best. I started out using spinning tackle because at the time when I started that is what everyone was saying to use, but I soon realized that It works just fine with a baitcaster and that is what I prefer. I do not use an open circle hook and nose hook the bait either like many will tell you that you must do. I use an Owner rigging hook 1/0 for the finesse worm and Txpose the bait.
The drop shot is not just a finesse technique. I use a drop shot set up for punching grass and that works better for me than the standard pegged Tx. rig with a 1oz weight. With the drop shot set up the weight goes through the grass first followed by the bait and as the weight is on bottom the bait is above it in the grass.

Maybe you guys could watch the video, and then we can talk about the specifics of drop shot lengths
I’ll kick it off, I think it doesn’t matter much if you are fishing vertical.
If you are casting out aways, I think a longer length (24-30”) 61-76 cm, is better because it still keeps your bait up off the bottom at that angle
