Congratulations again to Chance Tidwell of San Antonio for yet another Cibolo Creek Longnose Gar Record. Chance caught this one today while fishing the Cibolo Creek. The fish was 52" in length and weighed 17.28 Lbs. The fish beat Chance's previous and current Cibolo Creek Longnose Gar Record of 11.38 Lbs which he set this past April. Chance was using cut bait and fishing with a bobber. The fish will be processed for several nice dinners. Now that is a nice longnose! I bet the fight was amazing. I know you said hook and bobber, but are you using a small hook and wire leader?

I am pretty sure he said he was using a size 6 circle hook. I might be wrong. I do have friends that fish for gar and I know some of them use the size six circle hooks with 28 Lb. braided line with 16 Lb. leader. This is for Longnose Gar. I know heavier tackle is used for the Alligator Gar.
