We decided to take a road trip on Sunday to somewhere we had never been. We ended up at baker's crossing on the devils river in Valverde co.
There was a small bridge crossing the river that we fished next to. It Is the only place you can legally fish as all land on both sides is privately owned.
We had 3 game wardens come by and check us. They were very nice and explained the boundaries and told us it is better fishing up or down the river, You just need a kayak. next time we will bring the kayak !

We fished for about an hour and I caught a flathead, a smallmouth, and 1 bluegill


There is a really big hole of water just above the bridge that looks really fishy! We will be back!

I really feel for you guys and the drought issue. Was really hoping this hurricane thing would pan out, but no luck. The Houston area just keeps getting pounded. I assume you can fish anywhere on that river as long as you are in the water & not on land...is that correct ? Looking forward to future reports...

Love Road Trips. I fished the Devils many years ago. I know right where you were at. Great post.



Side Note: We need RAIN and a lot of it. It's going to take a Hurricane to help fill up a lot of water bodies that need it desperately. (Rain Dance X 5. )

Thanks jonboatfishing we did get a pop up shower on Tuesday that dropped almost 3 inches in an hour.

Looks like a very nice road trip.

One of my favorite places to fish and kayak is the Devils River. Nothing beats a good road trip and the Devils River paid off. Good job.
