For myself i plan on using the 50H for shoreline dunking (in Hawaii it's known as surf casting). I could go all monofilament, fluorocarbon (not the most popular choice), or braid. I can get the most distance & lineage going all braid. I can also go mostly braid w/a long mono top shop spliced in. Not my #1 choice as all splices are "weak points" in my book. So i will go all mono. I'm looking to see if i have 40lb. It'll be stronger w/no splices. Mono will resists scratches better than braid. Downside is i'll get less yardage going all mono of the same strength as braid & braid is more prone to line damage. Also if i went fluorocarbon it's way more expensive & it doesn't give like mono will. A lot of pros & cons.

So for others that think the same as i do bear in mind if you go with a smaller reel you'll be sacrificing much needed yardage as well. You're almost roped-into going all braid if you target larger fish but own a small-medium sized reel. Thus the option of using braid backing w/a long mono top-shot is a viable option. Have to weigh out your options before committing to your purchase. I knew what i needed so i chose the largest Saltist available for all monofilament usage.
