It's about time!! I got got in the boat at the marina in Runaway Bay Monday. I just made it out of the entrace/exit to the Marina and there they were... SANDIES TOPWATER!!!! They werent very "organized" but they were there and good size ones too. It all began around 800 and lasted thru 930. The wind kinda picked up. But I call a good day fishing when you use a minimal amount of gas and catch a bunch of fish. I never got a further than the causeway and went home with a bunch of fish.

Britton and I ran into a few topwater busters last week. We only spent 4 hours looking at every other part of the lake first when we just should have idled past the marina entrance and waited. Doohhh!

As much as I love top fish for sandies, can someone tell me a quick way to tell the difference between sandies and hybrids? I need to refresh my memory, I know you can tell by the tongue but i forgot...

Two patches on back of tongue= hybrid. One patch= sandie. You can also go by lateral lines. GW's will most likely go by patches.

Not on Bridgeport. He says you cant rely on that. He goes more by the lines.

I like that link on TPWD. I print out the nice PDF reference copy the provide, laminate it, and keep it on the boat for reference.

Most of the young Hybrids here are 15-17 inches long, they usually fight ALOT harder and are quite chunky. I would say we have boated 250 or so juniors in the last 30 days, at least 95% have had the VERY easy to see tongue patch. Also, they have a slight blue tint to their upper backs.

Our Wardens, Chris Dowdy and Penny Nixon, will look for the patch first.

And those junior hybrids fight ALOT harder than the sandies. You will definitely know the difference.
