Anyone one that has an Optimax motor run any other oil than Mercury or Quicksilver Synthetic blend? Pennzoil, Lucas Marine?

The only other one I’ve run is west marine brand DFI oil, but it’s DFI specific. Do not run a regular 2 stroke oil in these motors. Best off just sticking with the Mercury/quicksilver DFI oil (the gold one, not the regular green 2 stroke one).

When I had that engine I ran everything you listed. Never had an issue. Lots of folks over think the oil thing

I think people worry too much about oil and don’t worry enough about fuel.

I have a 2003 and run nothing but Mercury DFI. I have a buddy that has the same motor and runs nothing but Amisol. I hope we never figure out who's right.

confused 3 why take the chance? I am sure the non DFI oils MIGHT be clean enough and standardized enough to go through the oil injectors most of the time, but they are not produced specifically to go thru oil injectors, the EFI engines have ports for the oil to pass thru. The DFI engines use way less oil because of this design, just look at how much less they smoke than the others. I will pay a bit more for my Opti knowing I am not taking a chance and I am buying less oil. It is crazy how few times I top off the remote tank compared to a regular 2-stroke.

I run the DFI oil but know some that have had good luck with the Pennzoil XLF or premium plus.

The Mercury book that came with my 1999 225 Optimax says to use Premium Plus. And that or Penzoil full synthetic . Is all I have ever ran.

I miss the sounds and smells choking an old 2stroke with a carb.

I run what my mechanic tells me to run... When Mercury made to switch to DFI oil I did the same... I've had a 1999, 2002, 2008, 2013 and now running a 2018 model and have never had an oil/ fuel related issue with any of those engines... DFI oil, Quckleen, Quickcare and 87 octane with 10% ethanol is all I've ever run... Dan

My '08 Optimax started with premium plus and switched to DFI when they recommended it. Wouldn't think of using anything else.

Rockwall Marine buys Merc/Opti Max DFI oil in bulk and sells it in their own 1 gal jugs. Best prices I’ve found.
