Honest question. Why do roofers ask you for the insurance reimbursement paperwork prior to providing an estimate?

Isnt that like going shopping for a new car, but before the salesman can give you a price, he needs to see how much you have in the bank? Just so were clear, i'm not aiming to pocket anything here, it just seems like a silly practice. Probably doesnt help insurance premiums either.

It is done to match the scope that the insurance carrier is paying for
If you have a legit roofer
It is the best way to do this

I'm of the opinion that if roofers weren't getting paid by insurance companies 90 percent of time the cost of said roof would be 40 percent less.

It’s not opinion it’s fact. I have a friend that’s a roofing contractor and he admitted this very thing to me.

Also the roofer can see what the insurance co missed. I’m going thru this now. Germania didn’t put 2 section of roof that needs to be replaced. Keeping the claim under deductible. So they don’t have to pay. Waited for 4 weeks for a answer. 👎they are bad.

Let’s say the roofer knows he can complete a job for $10k (using round figures here) but the insurance company has agreed to pay out $15k to the homeowner. Now that the roofer knows what insurance is willing to pay, do you think that job will be completed for the $10k or the $15k?

professional roofers that have 20 years under their belt & specialize in storm damage will not waste their time bidding insurance quotes, without looking at the paperwork.
An experienced roofers quote is 100% of the time more than the carriers are willing to pay.
Why would I waste my time estimating a job, that I know insurance will not pay that amount?

Hard to compare apples to apples with out scope and products estimated.
