Took a break from fishing and getting back in the swing of things. Have a helix gen 1 at the console currently but looking to get up to speed with the latest and greatest. I already bought a livescope for up front so looking for the best graph at the console and then will link the same brand up front for mapping.

When I’m at the console I want good mapping and SI. 2D and DI are helpful, but to a lesser extent. I think humminbird maps and SI is the best. Most detailed map, clearest SI image.

Garmin. They appear to be leaps and bounds above the other manufacturers as far as sonar / FFS clarity, device features, screen clarity, and HD based sonar.
I personally have Lowrance on my boat and have since I bought it. If it weren't for that, I would have everything Garmin based.
Lowrance gets the best user interface / ease of use over Garmin though. I've seen things take 5/6 steps in Garminm where Lowrance is 2/3.

SI and DI go to Humminbird. Mapping is similar but to get the most out of it get a Navionics Platinum + card and a Lakemaster card as not all lakes are on both. Between these two cards I prefer the Navionics as it has satellite imaging built in.

If you want to link/share data with the Garmin/Livescope, there is only one choice===GARMIN.
The other brands are irrelevant. You disqualified the others in your last sentence.

So if mapping is the priority, I think a Helix 12 is probably as good as you need for mapping. That is what Jacob Wheeler has on his console for that purpose. He doesn't even have a transducer connected to it. He uses Lowrance for 2D and SI. BD

What's mapping???... Asked it many times and never received and answer... Dan Can’t tell if you’re serious. Are you caught up in semantics again? Mapping. Using a graph to display a map on the screen, it shows where you are, where you’ve been, waypoints you’ve saved, hazards, topo maps, aerial images, making contour lines, etc. What do you call it….Dan?

Interesting you would use H'bird for mapping. I know several pros who are migrating to other brands/platforms for mapping other than H'bird. One in particular is sponsored by them. Had I not witnessed the glitches in person I would have thought they were b!tchin' to be b!tchin'. Worst was at Fork during the Elite series derby there. H'bird mapping would go away or "shift" and have you on the wrong course. Provides for a pucker factor when you are trusting the boat lanes to be accurate.
