Got to the lake this morning thinking I would first do a little bass fishing then hit a couple of sunfish spots. As I was heading out, I decided to fish the sunfish spot near the boat ramp and it didn't disappoint. Landed 45 before a cast netter started approaching and decided to go somewhere else. Went to a spot where Rick (bass guide) showed us some time back and had no luck. Took off to an old sunfish spot I found in the past and ended up catching about 70 with one going 2 lbs. 1 oz. I weighed him twice. Took off to the community hole and caught several dozen more. It was the best day I ever had. Last week when I seen Steve, I had only caught 25. I think Doc was right, they're just late getting started.
Water temp was in the high 80's and stained. All fish were caught on gulp alive 1" minnows rainbow trout, stary night and blue shiner using the drop shot method. Emptied 3 jars of bait and ended the day at 2:30 with 187 fish which were all released to catch another day.

JB...If u caught one over 2 lbs u shattered the lake record...which is currently 1.71 lbs (photo attached) Is one of the pics you shared that fish ? None of the fish in the pics look to be over a pound...just comparing to ones I have caught that size. Anyway...great day...It was good last week as well.

Steve, It's the 3rd redear fish picture. He was 11" long. I thought the same thing as you when the I seen the 2.1lbs on the scale. I checked my boat scale with a house scale and a digital scale my wife uses for measuring her bread. The house scale was 7 oz under, and the bread scale was 2 oz under. I guess I'll never know the exact weight, but I do know he was heavier than any other fish I caught that day.

Zane...The lake record for red ear on FCL is 1.2 lbs....I believe it was caught by Jamie (J-Moe). I have never seen a picture of his fish & maybe we can talk him into posting it here. I can tell you this...If I had caught a sunfish I believed to be over 2 pounds I would have takin it to the store at Park Prairie and had it weighed...they have a certified scale there. I would also have taken all measurements and MANY pics & had a replica made. I have caught 2 red ear from FCL that went 1 & 1/2 pounds & they "looked" way bigger than the fish in pic 3. But who knows...my scale could have been off ? I'm sure you are a lot like me and don't care about all the plethora of records out there...but this is one of the 2 or 3 that would actually be meaningful to me personally. Anyway...hope you get another trophy tomorrow...

When I got my certified scales I was surprised to find that fish lost about half of their weight.
