I used to have an old lowrance transducer that sounded exactly like that out of the water!

There is no doubt sonar makes a TON of sound. If you aren’t using it and it’s on in your boat, it’s smart to turn it off.

Can’t hurt.

I’m dumb. I usually forget and leave my SI on when I stop to fish. No more after watching this

Sound travels faster through water and the energy (aka Volume) will carry farther than if it were in air. If it’s clicking in the water the fish know it.

I would like to see the hydrophone placed 10-30 yards from the boat and see how much of these noises it picks up.

Good video.

Years ago a man named John Hope did Tracking Texas Trophies for Honey Hole Magazine. John would implant a thumb-sized radio transmitter inside the belly of a large bass. Then he would track these fish to study their movements and feeding patterns. He had one that was caught on Fork by Dennis Canada that went 15.5 and named her Missy. Dennis & John implanted a transmitter into Missy and released her near where Dennis had caught her off the bed in Wolf Creek.

He told me that Missy lived in 12' of water on a treeline near a creek channel and would roam at night along the treeline for 300-400 yards then return to the same brushpile to rest. Dennis caught her again the next year at night with John Hope and they installed a new battery. The batteries would only last a little over a year so they had to be changed or you could not track the fish.

Each time they would go out to look for Missy, John would cut the big motor upwind from where they thought she would be. He would not use the troll motor but rather let the wind blow them toward her. With his listening device in the water and headphones on, he could tell when they were near her. One evening right before dark, he and Bruce Benedict (Jawtec) went out to find her.

As they drifted toward her, still probably 30 yards away he said, "Now watch this" as he turned on his Lowrance graph. Immediately she swam off her brushpile. Bass do not get that big by being stupid.

I did. He moved the hydrophone shallower and drove the boat by. I meant I would like to hear what offshore fish would hear if you positioned your your boat nosed into the wind casting forward 20-30 yards. I imagine they would hear something but if the side scan sounds shoot out to the sides, I'm curious if they could hear that.

The guy that developed the Hydrowave did a similar video fishing out of a modern fiberglass bass boat on Toledo Bend with pretty much the same results. He threw a Ratl-Trap as well and the sound from it you could here just like it was right next to the underwater microphone from the time it hit the water until he lifted it up out of the water.
I tried to find it but couldn't......

Sneak up on the fish playing rap music. They’ll think you’re a harmless wake boater.
